Shear zone evolution by depth in the continental lithosphere, SW New Zealand

by Keith A. Klepeis, Joshua J. Schwartz and Elena Miranda

The Fiordland and Stewart Island regions of SW New Zealand preserve a complete section of Cretaceous continental crust from depths of ~5 to ~65 km. These exposures allow us to directly observe how shear zone architecture and strain localization processes changed by depth within the crustal section.
